Description

Just published an original work of fiction that takes the situation at the end of the 1953 film ‘The Titfield Thunderbolt’ and goes on to tell the story of how the villagers and their railway deal with the numerous issues and problems they face in the days that follow the successful Ministry inspection.

The author, Tom Young, was moved to write the story after he visited the locations used in the filming and fell in love with the beautiful Cam Valley, as well as having concerns about the way in which the film leaves various aspects rather “hanging”. Skillfully introducing new characters alongside those familiar to lovers of the film, Tom weaves a whole new plot around the problems facing the villagers and the ingenious ways in which they find solutions.

Pearce and Crump feature in the story, although not in the way you might imagine, and Harry Hawkins and his steamroller also loom large. A key theme of the book is whether Harry and Joan manage to remain happily together after all of the tricks in which Pearce and Crump persuaded Harry to become involved.
