Description
John was born in March 1930 in Mochdre, Newtown in March 1930, spending the the first weeks staying near the Great Western Railways line at Talerddig before returning to Abergynolwyn. It’s little wonder that John was fascinated by steam trainss from birth. As a young boy, John would watch the engines at Talyllyn Railway taking on water above the farmhouse where the familylived. John’s family lived in a small house in the village before this and John was able to observe the incline activity on the “Lein Fach”.
John’s ambition to become a Locomotive Engineer was realised on his 22nd Birthday, starting at Aberystwyth MPD.
John’s career , working oon the railways lasted 17 years covering areas from Aberystwyth to Derby and London to Glasgow, working out of Aberystwyth, Neasden and Crewe.
