Southern Times – Southern Bridge Survey

Infrastructure is oft the forgotten feature of our railway system, with such views that do exist perhaps taken by chance or captured as part of the overall scene.

It was a wonderful surprise when in the summer of 2025 we were passed a number of official books detailing bridges, mainly on former LSWR lines of the Southern Railway; neither were these just paper records, for they include numerous views of bridges mainly from the 1950s and often with interesting detail in the background.

‘SOUTHERN BRIDGE SURVEY’ is a representative selection of these images, featuring structures on both main lines as well as a number of closed cross country and branch line routes.
